King Charles’ coronation is less than a month away, and additional information has been made public regarding the schedule of events and the attire that he and Camilla, who will soon become queen, will don.
The big parade will begin at Buckingham Palace and end at Westminster Abbey, according to the announcement made by officials on Sunday. The ceremony is scheduled for May 6.
According to a press release from the palace, King Charles and Camilla will ride in the Diamond Jubilee Coach hauled by six Windsor Grey horses to the abbey.
The identical carriage used in 2012 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th year on the reign still stands today.
The coronation service will begin at 11 a.m. British time at Westminster Abbey after the procession passes Admiralty Arch and runs along Parliament Street (6 a.m. Eastern).
A second procession will travel the same path back to Buckingham Palace after the coronation is over.
For that, eight horses will pull a heavier Gold State Coach. Since 1831, that carriage has been present at each coronation.
The pair will be welcomed back to Buckingham Palace by members of the British armed forces and officials from Commonwealth militaries, capping off the day’s events with three cheers from the gathering service members.
What will Camilla and Charles be wearing?
The palace also provided information regarding the crown jewels that would be on show when the king and queen are crowned, in addition to the procession routes.
A sapphire ring with a ruby cross studded in diamonds will be worn by King Charles.
He will have a gold orb that is divided into three parts by bands of gems. He’ll wield two sceptres, each different.
The monarch will don St. Edward’s crown at the coronation liturgy in Westminster Abbey, as is customary and previously announced.
The crown was the same one his mother wore for her 1953 coronation.
It has an ermine band and a purple velvet cap. Rubies, amethysts, sapphires, garnets, topazes, and tourmalines are set in the gold frame of the crown.
Charles will exchange it for the Imperial State Crown at the conclusion of the coronation ceremony, which also has a purple velvet cap, an ermine band, and gems.
Camilla’s ring, meanwhile, features a ruby in a gold setting.
She has opted to wear Queen Mary’s Crown, which is getting a few little tweaks and additions before the coronation, as was previously stated.
