Joe Biden’s campaign team has expressed strong disapproval of Donald Trump for disseminating a video on social media that depicted a truck adorned with an image of the US president in a bound state. The Biden team has leveled accusations against Trump, suggesting he habitually stirs political violence as the November election approaches.
In defense, a spokesperson for Trump’s campaign countered by accusing Democrats of endorsing “despicable violence” against Trump. The contentious video, shared by Trump on his Truth Social platform, originated from Long Island, New York, and was recorded during Trump’s visit to the wake of a New York City police officer who had been fatally shot during a routine traffic stop.
The footage captures two trucks draped in US flags and pro-police banners; notably, one truck featured “Trump 2024” insignia and displayed an image of Biden with his limbs bound. This act of sharing the video has prompted criticism from Biden’s campaign, with spokesperson Michael Tyler highlighting Trump’s history of inciting political unrest, specifically referencing the Capitol attack on January 6 by Trump’s followers after he baselessly claimed the 2020 election was rigged against him.
Steven Cheung, speaking for the Trump campaign, defended the imagery as merely being part of a truck’s decoration seen on a highway. He criticized Democrats for not only advocating violence against Trump and his family but also for allegedly using the judicial system as a tool against him.
As the Republican presidential candidate, Trump is confronting four criminal charges, including an election subversion case and a New York hush money case, which are poised to proceed to trial before the election date on November 5. Trump has entered a plea of not guilty in all instances, asserting he is the target of political persecution.
This dispute over the video adds to a series of intense back-and-forths between the two presidential contenders as the election draws nearer. Trump, in his campaign for a return to the presidency, has intensified his verbal attacks, labeling those convicted for their roles in the January 6 Capitol riot as “hostages” and sparking controversy with a statement made in Ohio, where he alluded to a “bloodbath” should he not be re-elected, a comment he claims was misconstrued by both the Biden campaign and the media.
