As federal public employees protest outside the airport, Toronto Pearson is advising travellers of potential delays.
Toronto Pearson tweeted on Thursday morning, “Passengers travelling through Pearson today are advised of the demonstration that may cause delays in accessing the airport.” “Allow extra time to take into account the potential disruption.”
The protest, in the words of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC), is a part of “escalation to pressure the federal government to address our key bargaining priorities.”
500 individuals, according to Lino Vieira, PSAC Ontario Political Communications spokesperson, who spoke to CTV News Toronto after the protest’s 10 a.m. start.
Nine days have passed since 155,000 PSAC members began their strike, which is hurting services provided by the Canada Revenue Agency and the Treasury Board.
On April 19, the PSAC began a strike to support the demands for a new contract. The federal government is being accused of stalling in discussions by the union.
A representative for the Greater Toronto Airport Authority said in a statement to CTV News Toronto on Thursday that “as of 11:30 a.m., we are experiencing minor disruptions in our departures curbside areas.”
“We’re collaborating with Peel Regional Police to make sure traffic can move forward, but advise travellers to allow extra time if flying from Pearson today,” said the statement.
