Numerous million-dollar homes under construction in Vaughan have been devastated by a massive fire.
Wednesday afternoon, approximately 20 homes in the vicinity of Teston Road and Pine Valley Drive caught fire, according to Grant Moffatt, deputy fire chief
Due to the wind and arid conditions, it took approximately two and a half hours to contain the fire, according to Moffatt.
“Without wind, you may be able to limit the damage to three or four residences. “However, the spread is very rapid for homes under construction,” he explained. He added that firefighters were able to establish a “line in the sand” to prevent the fire from spreading to additional residences.
Moffatt forecasts that the majority of the affected residences will be demolished due to heat damage.
Pine Valley Drive at Ballantyne Boulevard, Teston Road at Ballantyne Boulevard, and Teston Road at Arbordale Drive are among the roads that are closed.
According to the website of Klein Estates, the developer of the houses, all of the homes were selling for more than $2 million and residents were expected to begin moving in by the end of 2023.
According to the City of Vaughan, several homes have collapsed and spot flames are being extinguished in the area. The fire was aided in its spread by the gusty conditions in the area.
Along with police and paramedics, more than fifty firefighters were dispatched to the site. A firefighter was transported to the hospital as a precaution after receiving minor injuries.
The Fire Marshal of Ontario has been notified. The fire’s origin is still under investigation.
