A lucky individual in New Jersey has secured a Mega Millions lottery ticket worth an incredible $1.1 billion.
This remarkable win was the result of matching the six winning numbers: seven, 11, 22, 29, 38, with the Mega Ball being four, overcoming the daunting odds of one in over 302 million. This jackpot ranks as the fifth largest in the game’s history.
The final value of this billion-dollar prize is pending until all ticket sales are accounted for. The fortunate winner now faces a choice between annual payments for the total jackpot or a one-time lump sum of $537.5 million. Additionally, thirteen other tickets sold across various states matched five numbers, each winning a minimum of $1 million.
This marks the first Mega Millions jackpot win of the year, following a $394 million win by two Californians in December. The record for the largest US lottery jackpot stands at a $2 billion Powerball prize won by a Californian in November 2022. Mega Millions tickets are available in 45 states, Washington DC, and the US Virgin Islands, with half of the ticket sales revenue supporting local causes and retailer commissions.
