The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have expressed their desires for “health and healing” for Catherine, Princess of Wales, following her announcement of a cancer diagnosis.
In their statement, Prince Harry and Meghan emphasized their hope for Catherine’s private and peaceful recovery.
Catherine recently revealed her diagnosis, describing it as a significant shock after a particularly challenging period. She remains optimistic about her recovery, asserting that she is feeling well and growing stronger daily. The specific type of cancer has yet to be disclosed, though Catherine has undergone abdominal surgery in January, after which the presence of cancer was detected through further testing.
Prince Harry and Meghan, who resigned from their senior royal roles in January 2020 and subsequently relocated to California, have maintained a distance from the royal family’s day-to-day activities. Despite this, Harry made a brief visit to the UK to see his father, King Charles, recently diagnosed with cancer, although he did not meet with his brother, Prince William, during this trip.
In light of Catherine’s diagnosis, the White House’s press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, labeled the news as “terrible” and extended wishes for a full recovery, underscoring the importance of respecting the family’s privacy during this time.
Harry’s memoir, “Spare,” and other public appearances have hinted at strained relations between the brothers. However, following Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022, the siblings and their spouses made a united appearance at Windsor Castle. More recently, both brothers participated in a London awards ceremony honoring their late mother, Princess Diana, albeit from different locations, with William attending in person and Harry joining via video link from California.
