Democrat The Biden administration’s handling of the nation’s migrant problem, according to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, has “destroyed” his city.
Adams made the remarks in Washington, D.C., at a panel discussion with the African American Mayors Association.
Adams stated during the conversation that “the migrant crisis is destroying the city.”
Adams also seemed to criticise local officials, implying that they aren’t doing much to address the current problem.
None of my family members travelled to Washington, D.C., to fight for resources because, according to Adams, doing so would weaken every agency in our community.
Similar remarks were made by Adams on Wednesday, when he said that the “national government has turned its back on New York City,” adding that “every service in this city is going to be impacted by the asylum seeker crisis.”
According to a document from the New York City Office of Management, which the New York Post reported, the city will spend an estimated $4.2 billion on costs associated with migrants and asylum seekers between June 30, 2023, and the end of the fiscal year 2024.
The Democratic governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, would reimburse the city for up to $1 billion in migrant help, which only covers 29% of anticipated housing expenditures, according to an internal municipal report.
Officials from New York City have requested for a $654 million FEMA grant; a decision is anticipated on May 31.
